Let’s face it…it can be difficult to get your kids to brush their teeth. You can bribe, plead, cajole, and threaten but, short of standing behind them and watching them do it, you can’t really guarantee they will. In an effort to inspire kids to brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day, the Ad Council and Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives released a new mobile gaming app earlier this year. Toothsavers
The game is called Toothsavers and was created by the Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives as part of its Kids’ Healthy Mouths campaign. Toothsavers is available online, for the Android, and for iOS devices, and best of all it’s free. How does it encourage kids to brush their teeth? It educates them and their parents about dental health while recruiting them to help rescue friendly, fairy tale characters from an evil sorceress who cast a teeth-rotting spell on the kingdom. Three cool features of the game include:
- Becoming a hero by saving 10 characters from the evil cavity-creating sorceress in a timed, finger-swipe brushing game.
- A two-player version where kids can brush their parent’s or friend’s teeth by holding the mobile device up to their mouths.
- An app for a real-life companion to help kids and parents keep track of their brushing progress and give morning and night-time reminders.
The mission of the Kids’ Healthy Mouths campaign is to educate and motivate parents to take action against their children’s risk of oral disease by encouraging them to brush their teeth for two minutes, two times a day.
